Qigong is an umbrella term used for many Chinese practices involving movement, posture, breath, and focused attention. The word became especially common in the twentieth century, though many practices grouped under it have older roots.
Why definitions differ
Some Qigong is taught for general exercise, some in religious or martial settings, and some in health-related contexts. A responsible introduction identifies the specific method and does not assume every practice has the same history or purpose.
